Witnesses of Jesus

The Hebrew Scriptures testify of Jesus (John 5:30-47).

The Old Testament Scriptures generally (and Moses’ writings specifically) testify of Jesus. Jesus told them, “If you truly look through the Scriptures for the way to eternal life, you will see Me!” We know the majority of the Jewish leaders rejected Jesus. They had developed a lot of zeal for the Law. But they didn’t know, love, and serve the LORD of the Scriptures. Though they were into the Word insofar as study and observance is concerned, the Word was not abiding in them.

Nehemiah: The Restoring Builder

Valuable character lessons from Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:11–20)

Nehemiah, a man with a vision. Nehemiah, a man with a mission. Nehemiah, a man with permission. He saw the need, he saw how he could meet that need, and he asked for permission to do so. Mission without vision or ahead of vision is hazardous. Launching on a mission without permission is extremely dangerous. Ask God to help you keep these straight in your life. Let the good hand of your God be upon you.

Ezra: Faith and Action Preacher

He certainly was a faith-in-action preacher (Ezra 10:1–12).

Our choice to follow God must not be built on the shifting sands of emotions. Nor do we dare construct on the fractured foundation of human reason. To do so may seem sensible at first, but eventually the realities of life in the eye of the storm will bring the structure crashing down. Our decision to choose God needs to both blossom from and grow into a love commitment to obey.
