Offering Hope for the Future

God promised; build your hope on that (Isaiah 29:13–24)!

Our hope in God is always an urgent need. This needful hope enables us to surmount the obstacles we face in life. This essential hope keeps us going when many things and other people go wrong. And this blessed hope gives us a song in the night of our life. Not only that, our steadfast hope gives us purpose and direction when life is bright, cheery, and positive.

Speaking Truth to Power

A challenge for the prophet Micaiah is for us too (1 Kings 22:15–23, 26–28).

These kings knew what they wanted to do, and they didn’t plan to change for anyone, not even God. They had settled on a plan, they had chosen a course of action, and that was that. I wonder how often we have so set our minds on something that we refuse to change…even for God.

Giving and Loving Til It Hurts

Let’s make it practical. I don’t know what your average monthly earnings are, but I know what mine were in 1992 — about $1200 after taxes. My expenses for vehicle, utilities, medical, clothing, food, rent, banking and miscellaneous needs averaged $1195 each month for our family of six. I am satisfied; I need no more. However, how do I go about giving and loving till it hurts? Quite easily, if I would.
