Anabaptists -- pursuing historic Christian faith and practice
Anabaptist?
- Reformation-era Christians who rejected infant baptism.
- Enemies called them anabaptists -- "re-baptizers."
- Zealous to restore the true church on an Apostolic model.
- Radical Reformers who considered all state churches beyond reformation.
- Include Amish, Beachy, Hutterites, and Mennonites.
Some distinctive beliefs
- Adult believer's baptism
- Church discipline
- Separation from the world
- Non-resistance, non-violence
- No oath-taking
- The priesthood of the believer
- The brotherhood and community of the church
- The Bible as final authority for faith and practice
Mennonites
- Originally so called because of one of their early leaders, Menno Simons
- One of the main groups of Anabaptists
- Not a single, monolithic group in doctrine and life
- As diverse as most Protestant groups
- The Amish a break-away group
Though I'm not doing much here at Anabaptists these days, I have three blogs where I post somewhere between infrequently and rarely.
Established in mid-1995, this site has three purposes:
My blogs page shows excerpts of the last three posts at each of those blogs.
- Glorify God
- Build up people
- Introduce the Anabaptists
God bless you!
